Will the Real Workplace Fairness Institute Please Stand Up!

After having founded the Workplace Fairness Institute in 2005 and working hard to ensure a reputation for fairness and partnership in the workplace, I was appalled to find that our name was being used by a right wing U.S. organization to oppose the Employee Free Choice Act

The Employee Free Choice Act would serve to allow protections to employees who sought to organize into a union. This Act provides protections similar to what Canada has had for many years. These protections have ensured that employees are treated fairly and with dignity as they make their free choice to belong to a union.

The "other" Workplace Fairness Institute opposes this legislation. In fact the other WFI was created specifically for this purpose.

I wish it known on behalf of myself and other supporters of the Real Workplace Fairness Institute, that we do not agree with these impostors. After many years of scholarly research and practice in the area, I firmly believe that a unionized workplace provides for stronger, more effective and fairer conflict management than a typical non-union workplace.

Therefore, I personally support the American legislation and hope that American workers will have the same protections that we enjoy in Canada. And I find it objectionable that the "other" WFI would usurp this name - especially because it appears that their goal is to actually prevent legislators from making U.S. workplaces more fair.
